The Story Of Santa Claus

Have you ever got an orange in the toe of your stocking? Well, if you don't know why, there is a reason. So, here is the reason for that orange in the toe of your stocking.

There was a man named Nicholas who was born on March 15th, 280 A.D. He was born in Patara, in modern day Turkey. Misfortune struck Nicholas, and his parents died. So, he turned to the only thing that he knew: Jesus Christ. He learned as many bible passages as possible. He learned as much as he possibly could about Jesus Christ.

 

A long time ago, if someone were to get married, they had to have enough money. If they didn't get married, they would be thought of as unworthy. There was a man who had three daughters. He was poor, however he would not accept charity. Saint Nicholas knew that he had to help this man, but he had to do it in secrecy. So, he dressed in his long red cloak, trimmed with white fur, and tucked his long white beard inside. He saw three stockings (these were socks) and he put a ball, or bag (nobody knows which) of gold into the toe of the eldest's stocking. But, how he did this was unknown. The mans daughter was able to get married. But, he had three daughters. So, one night when the next daughter was going to have to get married, he embarked on a second journey. He dressed in his long red cloak, and tucked his long white beard inside. He went to the mans house and put gold inside of the middle child's stocking. When the youngest had to get married, Saint Nicholas embarked on his last journey, and put the gold inside of the youngest stocking.

 

The orange in the toe of your stocking symbolizes the gold that Saint Nicholas put there that day. But, how does "Saint Nicholas" turn into "Santa Claus"? Well, "Nicholas" translates into "Claus" in another language. And "Saint" translates into "Santa" So, "Santa Claus" comes out of it. It is also believed that "Sinterklauus" is translated into "Santa Claus".  So, this is how Santa Clauses name came about.

 

But, how he turned into a sleigh driving man who lives in the North Pole is unknown to many people. And that is how it will remain.
